How to identify a black soldier fly?

The black soldier fly is a dark-colored fly with big eyes that can be easily confused with a wasp. However, it has only two wings unlike wasps that have four and it does not sting.

How do they communicate?

They communicate using tactile, visual, and olfactory sensory organs. They can detect beehives and organic materials that can be used to feed their offspring using olfactory organs. These organs also help detect pheromones released by males and females. The hair on their bodies acts as tactile organs, which allows them to detect vibrations caused by movements and sound. These flies can also detect shapes, patterns, colors, and movements. They use their antennae to identify volatiles chemicals in the surroundings.

What is the size of a black soldier fly?

The black soldier fly can grow up to 1 in (25 mm). Females are larger than males. Larvae that freshly emerge are around 0.04 in (1 mm) in length. The weight of a black soldier fly is around 0.10-0.22 g.

How fast can a black soldier fly?

What do they feed on?

The main food source of these insects is organic waste like manure, carrion, honey, rotting corn, potatoes, and vegetable residues among many other kinds of food waste. They eat from carrions that are in the post-decay stage

No, the black soldier fly is not a poisonous insect. They are also not harmful to humans. However, research indicates that they cause rare myiasis in people.

What kills black soldier flies?

Not much is known about the natural predators of black soldier flies. However, usually in nature mammals, amphibians, birds, insects, and lizards feed on flies. Parasitic wasps in the surrounding black soldier flies also reduces BSF's population. The wasps prey on the pupal stage of the BSF development and decrease egg production. Sometimes the larvae can be found in waste piles, dumpsters, and composts and to get rid of black soldier flies or larvae you can use pyrethrum space sprays available in markets.

I came across a pack of roasted locusts at the store the other day and decided to check their nutritional value and study a bit more about them. Locusts are a type of insect from the family Acrididae . They are known to swarm in huge numbers and can travel great distances, causing considerable damage to crops. However, in many African, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries, locusts are considered a delicacy and eaten in abundance. Locusts are an excellent source of protein and contain a variety of fatty acids and minerals. Full vaccination（Sagae）

We some of the lab members had second vaccination at university. It was so hard situation for me because of side effects. I had heard some news that the side effects of the second vaccine are more serious. It was TRUE. The night after the vaccine, started to increase my body temperature. At midnight temperature already reached 38.5 ℃. And also my bone has pain and "Moderna arm". I could only lay on the bed the whole day by agony. My fever continues till next midnight. I thought my fever had gone down, but then I started to have terrible headaches. Again I spent the time on the bed the whole day. Finally, I recovered fully after 60 hours of vaccination. It was the worst experience in 2021 at least.
